Ok, it’s time to come clean. I’m a bit of a tea nut! At the last count I had 10 boxes of tea in the cupboard and no, I’m not joking. It’s all herbal and sometimes, you want to switch it up a little, so having a variety for me is key.
As many of you might know, I decided a while ago that caffeine wasn’t for me (some people can handle it more than others, but I’m definitely not one of those people!). I’m now a bit of a herbal tea buff and I dream of getting a blend out there of my own some day. Herbal teas have helped my digestion immensely and I truly believe that I feel calmer and more patient as a result of drinking herbal teas. Even the process of brewing tea is a gorgeous ritual in itself.

While I work on my signature blend , here are five herbal teas for energy, to add more ‘zing’ to your day naturally, minus the caffeine and artificial high:
1) Ginger Tea
Benefits: good for soothing the stomach and for sickness/nausea. Stimulates the mind and circulatory system- love it!
Try this: Ginger Root Tea from OVViO Organics
2) Ginseng Tea
Benefits: aids concentration and ‘brain activity’, soothes menstrual problems, helps to boost stamina
Try this: Morning Blend from Pukka Herbal Teas
Lots of herbalists however recommend taking a little break after a few weeks of drinking Ginseng. Maybe mix it up a little….
3) Peppermint Tea
Benefits: great for feeling uplifted, soothing headaches, clearing sinuses and stomach upset (often used as a remedy for IBS)
Try this: Organic Peppermint Tea from the Byron Bay Tea Company.
(Putting a teaspoon or two of coconut oil into the tea just before drinking is a little trick of mine- it’s not for everyone though!)
4) Lemon Balm Tea
Benefits: acts to restore depleted energy, sooth anxiety and revitalise
Try this: Lemon Balm Organic Herbal Tea from Planet Organic
5) Rosehip Tea
Benefits: a great source of vitamin C, renowned for its anti-ageing and rejuvenating properties
Try this: C-Strength Rosehip Tea from OVViO Organics
Remember: these teas can be drunk on their own or in a blend with other herbs, such as these gorgeous blends from Byron Bay Tea Company.
Now over to you, which herbal teas do you drink and enjoy?
Love and tea time,
Katie xxx
Yes, I pretty much live for tea. I do really love green tea with a small handful of goji berries steeped in. I find it gives me the energy I so desperately need some days, and I find it gives me clarity of mind which I like! Coconut oil in tea, now that’s something to try. I have been trying to come up with more ways to incorporate it in my diet. I do enjoy a coffee once in a while, but know it is not for my highest good as the artificial jolt of energy usually ends up in a day or two or three recovering on the couch. Some of my other fav’s are passionflower with chamomile before bed, dandelion, and I too love ginger. I’m curious if you consumed any caffeine while you were fatigued Katie? Thanks for another lovely post Katie

Oooh, goji berries with green tea- must try that one, thanks my lovely Jada! A good dandelion chai with almond milk is one of my little treats- fantastic!
I didn’t consume any caffeine at all while I was recovering, but then again, I wasn’t making an effort to consciously eat or drink anything during that time either (sleeping for 22 hours a day and having to be look after does that to you!) However, when I started teaching, like everyone in my department, I absolutely lived on freeze-dried coffee- the thought of it makes my skin crawl. I couldn’t start the day without coffee and was using it as a crutch in lots of ways. Weaning myself off coffee is one of the best things I’ve ever done for my health (one every now and again won’t hurt though my lovely, just really enjoy it!)
Thanks Jada! xxx
My 2 favourites are peppermint & chamomile. I also can’t do coffee. Also cayenne pepper(one tablespoon) and teaspoon of honey is great for when you have colds. I also can’t do coffee.
Ooh, cayenne pepper and honey, interesting! Love camomile just before bed! Thanks Aymi! xx
Thanks for sharing Katie!
Love tea! I’m not sure which is my favorite though. Thanks for a great article!
Hi Kathleen! Thanks for visiting! I don’t think I could pick a favourite tea either- such a difficult choice! x
