CFS acceptance cover

This Friday at 9am (Sydney time), I’ll be sitting by the computer, keeping everything crossed that my technical knowledge is enough to carry me through if something goes wrong with releasing my first e-book into the world. It’s been quite a ride, so I just wanted to put together a behind-the-scenes look at my new ‘Acceptance’ e-book for you.

CFS Book

Why it took me so long…

I cannot tell you what a huge step this is for me. This book has been written for absolutely ages, but fear (more specifically, the fear of not being good enough) has kept me back. The truth is, I’ve been comparing myself to a lot of people out there who have incredibly beautiful e-books which seem to have sold thousands of copies. I kept asking myself, “What’s the point? You’ve never going to be anywhere near as successful as your blogger sisters. Look, they have amazing hair. Don’t even bother.”

However, I knew that I was sabotaging myself and that by not releasing this e-book, I would never really grow. I would never have the opportunity to have this new experience, to experience either flying or failing, and my intuition told me that I had to go for it.

Why ‘Acceptance’?

Even though, for some reason, I resisted writing about it at first, acceptance is the one thing that I get asked about the most and I personally found in the most infuriating (and also rewarding) part of my journey. It’s a complete paradox, double-edged sword, whatever you’d like to call it. when I asked you on the Facebook page what you’d most like help with, ‘acceptance’ was the most common reply.

A Bit Of Background…

This first book, ‘The Little CFS Book of Acceptance’, is one in a series of mini e-books about the ins-and-outs of CFS and fatigue-related illness. It it aimed at those on their own healing journeys, but I would love to eventually have some books to help those without CFS to understand what the illness means and how it can affect us.

Because the book is part of a mini-series, the price will be less than a standard e-book. I hope that we’ll be able to put it up as a Kindle book and in the Apple store very shortly as well.

This Book is for you if:

  • you’ve reached a place in your journey where you feel there’s more to it than meets the eye
  • you’re feeling lost and need to get back on track
  • you’ve become despondent and not as shiny as you normally are
  • you feel as if you’re never going to see the back of this illness

Book Contents

  • What Does Acceptance Really Mean?
  • Acceptance Isn’t The Same As Giving In
  • Where is my Finish Line?
  • Getting Honest With Yourself- The Hardest Part of CFS
  • How To Accept Help From Others
  • 5 Techniques To Feel Acceptance When You’re Too Sick To Move
  • The Main Lessons I’ve Learned from CFS/M.E.

What It Will Look Like…

Pay What You Want

After deciding to price my book one way, I ended up deciding to do something completely different. This book is a ‘Pay What You Want’ e-book, meaning that there is a recommended price, but you are welcome to give a fair price and pay what you want.

  1. Can’t wait to buy it. I have had CFS now for three years and just when I think I am on top of it, I crash and burn again for weeks at a time. I want to learn more about accepting CFS but to also have others accept that it’s a condition you can’t control and even though you look okay when you see them
that you are genuinely unwell on those bad weeks you dont see them. Everyone has a point of view and it’s very tiring when you have already explained it and told them what you are doing to help yourself already.
I am on a jouney of combining medication, wellness therapist and pacing which has made the episodes less frequent however when it does return I am still quite unwell. My next step is to try light yoga with meditation which I was too fatigued to try until now. Hard to start doing things at set times when I’ve spent the last three years cancelling most things I have planned.

I look forward to reading you are E book.. Jan Conway

    • Janice, the opinions of others can be upsetting, especially when we don’t always have the energy to defend ourselves. I know what that feel likes. Try and concentrate your energy on healing and being kind to yourself. Believe it or not, this takes an energy all of its own.

Hope you enjoy the book my darling.

      Love, Katie xx

  2. I absolutely can’t wait to read it! I know it’s going to be wonderful because I’ve read all your posts and you are a gifted writer. I’m so excited for you…and you’ve given me something to look forward to.

  3. Katie, lovely, I don’t own a tablet or ‘e-reader’. Is the E-book in a format that I will be able to open on my MacBook? :) xx

  4. Thank you for this little book of LOVE….it is the perrrrrrrfect title to begin your e-book series re Conquering Fear Spiritually. CFS/FM are my two Wisdom Masters with me now for many years teaching me the virtues of ACCEPTANCE & PATIENCE. I wish for you every success & happiness that your writings bring to you and therefore, us, your community of Soul Sisters & Brothers. Much love/light Karen (((((((+)))))))

  5. Can’t wait to read it in full! Thank you for putting it out there.

  6. Hi Katie – glad to see you push through and make it happen. Your insights are great and I commend you for your work. So many people recover from CFS and dissappear from the scene given the challenges -you are a true champ for perservering and sharing your message.
    Cheers,
    Dan

  7. Congrats! I look forward to seeing it! ♥

  8. Can you add paypal to your payment methods? I don’t use my credit cards online. Thanks.

  9. Hi Katie, I just bought your Acceptance e-book and read it all in one go with tears streaming down my face. Today I have been filled with despair. I was feeling so powerless, hopeless and worn down. But now a glimmer of hope has penetrated the gloom in the form of your wonderful, insightful book. So much of it touched me deeply, reminded me of what I already knew but had forgotten, and offered some startling new concepts and way of looking at things. Those words “Dishonesty is a form of fear leapt off the screen for me. I have known for years that my illness is a lesson that it has so much to teach me but I often tried to hurry it along and still felt I had to strive for my recovery. Now I feel like I can relax more and go gently. Thank you so much for this gift.

There is one question I would like to ask. Some members of my family aren’t supportive. I have asked for help and been refused or else they do it, but resentfully, and make sure I know how much I’m putting them out. Then I feel worse! What would you recommend in this case?

    • Thank you so much Natalie- I’m so glad you enjoyed the book, it really means a lot to me. I definitely know that feeling of striving and trying to hurry recovery along by denying my true needs.

In terms of your family, this can be a difficult situation. This article, although it refers to losing friends, might help, as might this one and this one.

Lots of love Natalie- Katie xxx
